Williamsburg Girl in the Garden

Fourth in the Colonial Williamsburg series. This lovely young woman was working in the main Colonial Williamsburg garden one sunny day, late morning. She and the main gardener were consulting over the pruning project they had coming up. I was intrigued that she was wearing a black velvet hat over her white cap and dark hair. It was no wonder that her cheeks and nose were flushed with heat. I noted that she had only a half apron to protect her skirt but it did not extend up the front to protect her jacket (called a robe). In any case, I loved the way the light fell across her shoulders and the brim of her hat and how the dark hat vanished into the dark background.
